I love talking about some of the things that I do which most people look at as "weird and wackey". If you see me on your average day where it isn't totally freezing you'll probably notice I'm barefoot... In fact I often forget to even put shoes on when I am heading places because I spend so much time with my feet free and out in the elements. So you might be thinking "okay but why barefoot" and the reason is that I feel so much better without shoes and when I am more connected with the Earth. By that, I mean "grounded". So what exactly is "grounding" or Earthing as some people call it? Grounding is an extremely ancient practice that spreads throughout many different cultures, traditions and spiritual practices over hundreds and hundreds of years. The main aim of it is to simply reconnect and align with the energies of the Earth. When we allow ourselves to connect with the Earth we are enhancing our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing while also creating a clear path of thinking.
In this day and age where we are surrounded by technology that are letting off EMFs, we are running around stressed and might often spend a lot of time indoors we are getting off balance and losing our connection. When we spend a moment to ground ourselves we become present, in the now. We feel centered, focused and strong. Have you ever wondered why when you are walking at the beach with your shoes off, listening to the waves you just feel this sense of calm? You're grounding yourself and creating balance within your body and mind without even knowing it. A lot of people are ungrounded and don't really know what grounding really is let alone how to pick the symptoms. If you are ungrounded you may: -Lack focus/be easily distracted -Feel spacey/scattered/anxious -Be easily affected by things going on around you (this can also just be because you're an empath much like me though). -You may experience feeling mentally, emotionally, physically or spiritually drained. -You may suffer from inflammation and poor circulation. -You might be suffering from poor sleep, pain or fatigue. If you have said yes to any of these things a simple way to help and to come back to the present moment is to take off your shoes and socks and go stand on the Earth. Walk around barefoot, put your hands deep in the soil, pick some flowers, sit in the grass, or my favourite thing to do because I live near the beach is to walk in the sand, let the waves hit my feet and ankles and breathe. Salt water is extremely grounding as well as cleansing and replenishing for energy. Grounding is such an easy way to uplift your mind, body and soul and the best part is... It doesn't have to cost you a thing. Stay adventurous, Maddie xx
