We are always making and creating small bits are pieces, whether that's something for outside in the garden, or something inside to add some life to a space.
As I was scrolling through Pinterest looking for inspiration and activities that my toddler could do with my partner when the new baby arrives I came across so many beautiful things. I showed my little one a few little ideas and she immediately lit up at the idea of flower wall hangings, she ran to the playroom straight away and got out her foraging basket... Just like that... Away we went!

When people come into my home with their children a lot of the parents comment on the beautiful wooden toys that we have. They say "oh they're so beautiful" or "they're so much nicer than plastic toys" and it usually finishes off with "it's a shame that they're so expensive". While this last point may be valid at times in this blog post I will talk about how you can get more wooden/sustainable toys without having to donate a kidney.
Although I am quite skeptical on what's going on in the world right now, I've chosen to hermit at home with my little one. She's missing her favourite things, like the park and our "yummy Chai" dates that we would have once a week, or a trip to the local Op Shop, plus we recently discovered a GIANT inflatable pillow up the road and as she is obsessed with jumping castles... She's asked about it every day. So I've made more of an effort to do a few extra things to engage her, especially in those moments where she is upset about not getting to play at the Park.
It's a tough time for our little people at the moment and I'm finding it more important than ever to be extremely switched on to her needs, to read extra stories and give her super big snuggles when she needs it. The last thing I want is for her to be traumatized by this whole event like so many others will be, both young and old. By this I mean that this even WILL BE traumatizing for some people. We don't know how long it will go on for, we don't know how many restrictions, rules and regulations will be thrown on us and we don't know whether we're either going to live or die or a virus (although trust me, we'll be okay). There are so many unknowns and I can just tell by seeing and hearing things that there are people not coping. Over the last few days I have really had to take a moment to sit... Think... Ponder... Over the thousand things going through my head. If you know me, you'll know that I am extremely deep down the rabbit hole of "conspiracies". So part of me is sitting here all like "I TOLD YOU SO MOTHERF***ER". The other part of me is like this...
I wake up... Life feels normal. I lay in bed, feeling the little baby growing in my belly gently kick to say good morning, I talk to it for a little bit, breathe, and think about what to cook my toddler and I for breakfast. I then hear some scuffles from the bed in the corner of the room and see a little messy haired, wide eyed little munchkin's head poke over the side of the bed rail "Mummmmmm". "Yes Edith" I reply, stoked that she's finally awake and I can make food. We recently had our Election here in Australia. It's generally a time where people begin to "give a shit". They have all the time in the world but hey... It's only voting time that standing up for things matters. I see it all the time... Nothing is done until the last minute and by then it is just too late. So of course now that for a lot of people (especially those my age) they are losing it. Upset, disheartened, like there is NOTHING left for us or there to save us... Like the Government was going to save you? Really? Since when did they do the saving? I wanted to do a little video on the small, yet glimmering silver lining that has come out of this. I want to motivate you, as an independent and beautiful human being to realise that the change you want to see starts with you. The saving of the planet starts with you. The policies that piss you off are not going to change, unless YOU do something about it. So I urge you to watch the video below, share it far and wide and sit for a minute and think, think really deep about what you are going to do to create the change you want to see, to save the things that you believe in and to stand up for what is right! I love talking about some of the things that I do which most people look at as "weird and wackey". If you see me on your average day where it isn't totally freezing you'll probably notice I'm barefoot... In fact I often forget to even put shoes on when I am heading places because I spend so much time with my feet free and out in the elements. So you might be thinking "okay but why barefoot" and the reason is that I feel so much better without shoes and when I am more connected with the Earth. By that, I mean "grounded". So what exactly is "grounding" or Earthing as some people call it? Grounding is an extremely ancient practice that spreads throughout many different cultures, traditions and spiritual practices over hundreds and hundreds of years. |
